Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and suitably qualified English language professional to join our team as a casual contractor providing ISLPR testing and English tutoring services.

The role involves supporting candidates to develop their English language skills in preparation for the International Second Language Proficiency Ratings (ISLPR) assessment, with the opportunity for suitable applicants to undertake training to become an Accredited ISLPR Tester.

This opportunity would suit an experienced ESL teacher, TESOL professional, linguist or language educator who enjoys working with learners individually and has a strong understanding of English language proficiency and assessment.

As this is a casual contractor position, applicants must hold or be willing to obtain a current ABN.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on accreditation and experience, responsibilities may include:

Providing individual or small-group English language tutoring to ISLPR candidates
Supporting candidates to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills
Identifying areas requiring further English language development
Providing clear, practical and constructive feedback to candidates
Helping candidates understand the structure and expectations of the ISLPR assessment
Developing appropriate learning activities based on individual candidate needs
Monitoring candidate progress and maintaining appropriate records
Conducting ISLPR assessments once accredited and authorised
Applying ISLPR assessment procedures, standards and rating criteria consistently
Participating in professional development, moderation and other requirements associated with ISLPR tester accreditation

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants seeking to become an Accredited ISLPR Tester would normally be expected to have:

A degree in Linguistics, TESOL or an equivalent relevant discipline
A Master’s qualification is preferred
Considerable and proven experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL/EAL)
A strong understanding of English language structure, communication and language acquisition
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to assess language performance objectively and provide constructive feedback
A professional and supportive approach when working with candidates from diverse backgrounds

Some variation in the formal qualification requirements may be considered where an applicant can demonstrate substantial and highly relevant ESL teaching experience.

Native English speakers are preferred, particularly given the language assessment and tutoring requirements of the role.

ISLPR Tester Training

Applicants who are not currently accredited ISLPR Testers may be considered for the opportunity to undertake the required tester training.

The ISLPR Tester Training is conducted as an intensive training block, rather than being spread over a number of weeks.

There is a cost associated with completing the tester training. Details of the training cost will be provided to suitable applicants before they commit to undertaking the training.

We may be able to assist with the cost of training and arrange a payment plan where required. This can be discussed individually with successful applicants.

Completion of training does not remove the requirement to meet the relevant standards and requirements for ISLPR tester accreditation.

Contractor Requirements

As this is a casual contractor role, the successful applicant will be required to:

Hold a current Australian Business Number (ABN)
Be responsible for their own taxation and other obligations associated with operating as an independent contractor
Be available for work on a casual/as-required basis
Maintain appropriate professional standards and confidentiality
Comply with relevant ISLPR testing and assessment requirements when providing testing services

The volume and timing of work may vary depending on candidate demand and testing requirements.
